Our client in Essex is currently recruiting for Port Health Officers on a 3-month renewable basis.

Main Duties:

  • Achieve the objectives and targets of the Port Health Team, Department, and Council.
  • Implement controls, inspections, monitoring, and checks related to Imported Food, Food Safety, Health and Safety, and infectious disease control in line with agreed policies, procedures, and legislation.
  • Undertake sampling, destruction, and disposal of rejected goods and other related tasks for the imported food service.
  • Provide professional information and advisory services to all users.
  • Process all enquiries and take appropriate action to resolve matters promptly and efficiently.
  • Offer professional guidance to staff as required. Undertake inspections and revisits to premises associated with the port on Port Health matters.
  • Maintain specialist knowledge in Port Health matters, including imported food controls and food safety legislation.
  • Enforce Imported Food and Food Safety Legislation breaches, including informal, formal, and prosecution stages in line with the Procedures Manual/Code of Practice.
  • Produce accurate correspondence and records.

Experience:

  • Desirable: Experience in imported food controls, preferably at a Designated Point of Entry.
  • Previous experience in an enforcement role or similar environment, dealing with confrontational and sensitive situations.
  • Experience in food safety inspection and enforcement, preferably including the National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme.
  • Ability to engage with individuals at all levels, both internally and externally to the Council.

Qualifications:

  • EHORB Registration/EHORB Higher Certificate in Food Safety.
  • Port Health courses (desirable).
