Buckingham Futures is recruiting for an Environmental Health Officer / Health and Safety Practitioner on behalf of our client in West London to start asap initially till April 2025.

Job Purpose:

To protect the health, safety, and welfare of employees and the public by enforcing health and safety standards in commercial premises and work activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out inspections, projects, and surveys in accordance with legislation, codes of practice, and local procedures.
  • Investigate complaints, accidents, serious incidents, and work-related deaths, ensuring appropriate enforcement action is taken.
  • Take legal action on behalf of the Council, including prosecutions and serving statutory notices such as Improvement and Prohibition Notices.
  • Collaborate with external agencies like Public Health England, police, and other bodies during health investigations and outbreaks (e.g., Covid-19, Legionnaires disease).
  • Support public health initiatives and ensure compliance with health and safety legislation.
  • Handle applications, licensing, and safety notifications, ensuring compliance and taking enforcement action where necessary.
  • Provide evidence for legal proceedings, including court cases, tribunals, and licensing hearings.
  • Undertake targeted initiatives, such as enforcing smoke-free legislation and addressing illegal shisha establishments.
  • Respond to member enquiries, provide advice to businesses and the public, and maintain up-to-date records on investigations.

Qualifications:

  • Essential:
    • Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health or a nationally recognized qualification in Health & Safety (e.g., NEBOSH National Diploma).
    • Relevant experience in health and safety enforcement, inspections, and advising on legislation.

Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience in investigating accidents, enforcing health and safety legislation, and managing caseloads.
  • Ability to produce detailed reports on complex issues.
  • Knowledge of preventative health and safety measures, and occupational health and safety legislation.
