We are recruiting for a Food and Safety Officer (This position can be offered on the full-time or part-time basis).

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Food and Safety Officer to join our Food and Safety Team. We are home to one of the busiest fish markets in the town of Brixham which exports both to Europe and beyond. You will play an essential role in our export health certification process to ensure that our fishing industry in Torbay can export effectively on a daily basis.
You will be based at our office at Brixham Harbour on a minimum number of days a week to make sure that our export certification service runs effectively and to a high standard. If you would prefer to work part time then the majority of your time will be spent at Brixham Harbour office.

Your role will be to take a lead on the export certification service that we provide and day to day you will be responsible for certifying fish and shellfish that is exported out of Brixham to the EU and beyond.Whilst you will be expected to work on your own with little supervision, the export service is overseen by a Senior Environmental Health Officer.
As well as your role in the export health certification service you will be responsible for carrying out other food and safety duties and you will have your own workload in terms of medium risk food inspections and will be involved in specific project work which is undertaken to improve and maintain standards of food safety and health and safety within Torbay.
You will have the following qualification:

  • Degree or Diploma or equivalent in Environmental Health, Higher Certificate in Food Inspection or Food Control and ideally be a qualified Food Competent Certifying Officer (FCCO).
  • Experience of providing good customer care will be essential, as you will be expected to provide advice and information to service users, other local authorities and government departments such as the Food Standards Agency. We are looking for an individual that can hit the ground running, so a background in food law enforcement, and knowledge of export food controls would be advantageous although not essential.

In return, you can expect amazing benefits including a pension scheme, annual increments (subject to performance reviews), employee discount scheme, parking permit allowing parking in Council car parks for £1 per day, flexible hybrid working, generous annual leave and continual professional development.
Torbay is an incredible place to live and work.  Encompassing the towns of Torquay, Brixham and Paignton, sitting on the beautiful Tor Bay and next to the stunning landscape of Dartmoor National Park.
Whilst we are a magnet for tourists, and known to many as the English Riviera, we also host globally significant technology businesses operating in photonic, marine industries, nanotechnology and medi-tech.
But we can also balance out that work life with our stunning green countryside and access to our blue sea, along 22 miles of coastline. We benefit from a mild climate which, coupled with the compelling natural environment, makes us a hugely attractive place to live and work.
If this sounds right for you, we’d love to hear from you.
Come and be part of our #torbaystory.
