An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our air quality, contaminated land and closed landfill team. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Technical Support Officer to join a specialist team in the management of these areas.
The successful applicant will play a critical role in monitoring and managing various environmental aspects related to our air quality and closed landfill obligations. You will work under the supervision of the Environmental Protection Principal Officer, in close collaboration with a dedicated team of professionals to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, to safeguard public health and contribute to a cleaner environment.
Key responsibilities will include:
Undertaking duties in relation to the monthly deployment and collection of air quality diffusion tubes located across the Rotherham borough.
Undertaking safe and effective monitoring duties on closed landfill and contaminated land sites, including landfill gas monitoring, the sampling of soils, groundwater, surface waters and landfill leachate, including recording groundwater water levels.
Will be responsible for maintaining equipment and systems, including the calibration and maintenance of air quality automatic analysers and landfill monitoring equipment, including boreholes and gas/leachate monitoring wells.
To be responsible for the accurate management and recording of environmental monitoring data on both paper and spreadsheets/databases.
Ideally you will have knowledge of environmental regulations/legislation, particularly those related to landfill and air quality, along with some experience in environmental monitoring, record keeping and reporting. Until 31st March 2026 employees paid at Band D and above are subject to a temporary pay reduction of 1.15% spread out by means of a monthly deduction from each pay period over the full financial year. In recognition of implementing this temporary measure, those who experience a pay reduction will be awarded three additional days leave (pro rata for part-time).
