North Tyneside Council are seeking two professional and enthusiastic Environmental Health Officer or Practitioners to join the Environmental Health Team within the Public Protection Service.

The successful applicants will have the opportunity to   work either within the Food or Private Sector Housing and Pollution Team based on their knowledge and skills.

The applicant is required to hold CIEH Environmental Health Registration Board Certificate or is working towards or has attained CIEH Chartered Status in Environmental Health

The Food Environmental Health Officer is required to have a specialism in Food and demonstrate the competency and qualifications required as set out in the food law code of practice for food standards and food hygiene inspections. They must demonstrate competency in carrying out high risk food hygiene and standards inspections.

North Tyneside Council acts as the Port Health Authority for the River Tyne which includes imported food and ship sanitation inspections. The candidate would have opportunity to be part of the port health rota and therefore experience in this area would be desirable however in house training can be provided.
This is a varied role to include all areas of Food and previous experience working in that field as an Environmental Health Officer is essential.
 
The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated professional with the relevant level of experience in an Environmental Health background. It is essential that the candidate will have worked previously as an Environmental Health Officer in a local authority.

Previous experience in enforcement action would be desirable and relevant experience in either  team would be required.

The Environmental health officer in housing pollution team is required to have experience in housing or pollution. The team covers:

• Environmental protection including noise, nuisance, air, water and land pollution,
• Private sector housing including health and safety standards, mandatory licensing and inspection of  houses in multiple occupation (HMOs) .
