Improving the quality of rented accommodation across the Borough

Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us.

The Post

The Private Housing Services currently runs HMO mandatory, Additional and Selective licensing schemes, which focuses on and have greatly contributed to improving the quality of privately rented accommodation across the Borough. We are seeking to appoint to join our team of licensing officers to help drive forward our plans.

This role offers the exciting opportunity to contribute to achieving the service and Council vision of quality rented accommodation within Brent. You will manage a caseload, carrying out housing inspections, surveys and provide accurate reports after each visit. You will ensure that properties and their landlords comply with relevant legislations, taking enforcement actions as appropriate.

Professional development is central to the dynamics of the team and you will therefore be given training on relevant legislation regarding property licensing and any other knowledge required to the post. You will have a key role in helping to achieve the Councils vision of having high quality rented accommodation throughout the Borough.

The Person

Do you have experience in private property licensing, housing conditions inspections and health and safety (HHSRS) assessments, as well as experience in managing cases involving landlords and tenants?

Have you got the ability to work effectively both on your own and within a team?

Do you possess excellent oral and written communication skills?

Are you able to effectively prioritise your own workload and work to deadlines?

If so we welcome your application! To discuss the role please contact James Philip, Private Housing Services Manager, 020 8937 2983 or email james.philip@brent.gov.uk
