Job Introduction

The Private Sector Housing Team is focused on improving the management, standards, and quality of private sector homes in the city.

The Private Sector Housing Manager provides strategic and operational leadership of technical teams responsible for improving the management and conditions of Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO’s) and all other privately rented homes. This will be through the council’s duties in relation to assistance, licensing, and enforcement.

In addition, this role will be responsible for successfully implementing a significant expansion in private sector licensing activity in the city.

About the role

Over a third of Brighton & Hove's residents live in the private rented sector. This is an opportunity to join the management team with responsibility for making a real difference by improving the quality of the private rented housing in the city. This role is demanding, and we are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and forward thinking manager with proven experience of working in this sector. Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills and the ability to think creativity to find solutions to complex problems is an essential part of the role. We are currently preparing to expand our licensing function following approval of two new schemes and the post holder will take responsibility for successfully implementing the schemes.

Additional information

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.

Team and service working arrangements are designed to support both employee work life balance and team collaboration. These would be part of your individual working arrangements alongside any personal preference agreed with your manager in advance of joining.

Working arrangements are subject to Government guidance at the time. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team and travel to and from your contractual location would be at your own expense.

A relocation package is also available if required (Scheme B - up to £2,500)
