Our client in South East England is looking for an Environmental Health Investigations Officer to support a small general environmental health team but with a focus on the private sector housing area and also ideally the investigation of statutory nuisances. It may be suited to someone only with private sector housing experience but not someone only with pollution control experience. If possible, someone with experience of both would be advantageous.
For the private sector housing area, the candidate must be able to show experience in working in a local authority regulatory capacity for housing HHSRS assessments of dwellings, HMO mandatory licensing, and investigating complaints of poor standards of accommodation. For the environmental protection/pollution control aspect, the role will be the assessment of statutory nuisance from residential, commercial and industrial sites. The candidate needs to be able to manage a wide-ranging case load and be responsive to customer requests and provide updates both verbally and via written report. The candidate must be proficient with local authority IT, in this case knowledge of the Idox suite of software would be an advantage.
Owing to the requirements to inspect, visit and assess it will be unsuited to a home working or heavily hybrid role. Within that, there may be some small scope for occasional home working.
Contract length: Initially 3 months
Hours: 20 hrs per week
Rate: Competitive
