We are looking for an experienced Environmental Protection Manager (EPM) to join our Environmental Protection Team, the role holder will broadly focus on areas of noise and nuisance in all commercial settings with management responsibility for a team of seven officers (including any agency staff) and will be responsible for all aspects of team performance.

The EPM will lead on relevant enforcement activities and complex cases ensuring that all procedures used are in compliance with legislation, plan, prepare and carry out targeted team wide operations, whilst ensuring that all officers exercise their duties in line with current guidance set out in legislation and in line with national guidance. Providing specialist advice and direction to the field officers as required. You will be responsible for reporting on statutory requirements, ensuring all corporate workplace guidance is adhered to. You will have experience of developing and implementing policy and practice changes along with new systems and work procedures, whilst bringing new and innovative ways of delivering services that provide a high-quality service focusing on high quality customer service. You will have experience of working with stakeholders such as Housing and Planning.

The ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with individuals and groups at all levels is essential, including external organisations and responding to member enquiries and report writing. You will be able to tailor your communication to different users and audiences by referencing e.g., relevant case law, the main offences and controls under the legislation enforced and creating unique correspondence in response to sensitive or complex matters. Your organisation skills will be second to none.

You will have the experience of working as an enforcement officer in an environmental protection department. providing comprehensive advice, to a variety of types of premises, advising business, consumers and other service users of the criminal and civil law relating to environmental protection, preparing reports and statements to meet legal and court procedures, and including taking the lead role in complex investigative work.

You will hold an approved academic qualification – an MSc, BSc (Hons) or Diploma in Environmental Health, have evidence of continuing professional development and a post qualification experience in noise and nuisance management.

This opportunity offers hybrid working, with two days in the office, with some weekend work.
