The team provides a range of regulatory services and advice to businesses and residents to ensure the city remains a healthy environment in which to live, work and spend time.
As Senior Practitioner, you’ll undertake Health and Safety investigations and assist in the delivery of our food programme. You’ll investigate a range of health and safety and food hygiene matters, provide guidance and take enforcement action where necessary.
You’ll also lead on high profile and complex projects, working collaboratively to support team members across the environmental health service.
Main Responsibility
- Investigating high-level health and safety incidents and accident notifications.
- Deliver food hygiene interventions, including inspecting the full range of food business categories.
- Investigate a range of health & safety and food related complaints.
- Develop and lead on a range of health and safety projects.
- Contribute to other environmental health roles.
The Ideal Candidate
- You will be an enthusiastic and suitably qualified Environmental Health professional (EHRB or CIEH Registered Environmental Health practitioner or equivalent). You must hold suitable qualifications to allow you to work as a health and safety inspector in accordance with the health and safety competency framework and a baseline qualification with experience to show you are food competent under the Food law Code of Practice.
- Significant experience as an authorised officer in health & safety and food safety matters and be familiar with and having undertaken the wide range of enforcement powers in such roles.
- A collaborative person that can work well with a team to achieve shared goals and meet deadlines.
- Proven ability to work under pressure, effectively manage their caseload and take initiative.
- Previous experience of supervising colleagues or be able to demonstrate through their experience how they are now ready to progress to this level.
- For this role you are required to have a full UK driving licence and provide evidence of your vehicle insurance with business cover and use of a vehicle. If you are successful, you will be required to supply evidence of your licence prior to starting the role.
Package Description
In addition to your salary, we offer a range of benefits including:
- Great holiday benefits - most roles include 28 days annual leave every year on top of public (bank) holidays, increasing to 32 days after five years. In addition, there is a holiday purchase scheme allowing staff to purchase up to 5 additional days of leave each year.
- Excellent pension – everyone who works for us can join the national Local Government Pension Scheme, widely regarded as one of the best available.
- A full range of family friendly policies including enhanced maternity, adoption and paternity support and a childcare subsidy.
- Access to an award-winning employee benefits programme that includes a health cash plan, a low-cost bike purchase scheme as well as high street discounts and money off entertainment and travel.
- Blue Light Card - employees working within social care can qualify for an additional range of discounts from national retailers and local businesses.
Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
