About us

We are recruiting two Environmental Health Officers to our Neighbourhood Services Team within the Shared Regulatory Service. The Shared Regulatory Service operates across the three partner Councils, Bridgend, Cardiff, and the Vale of Glamorgan under a single management structure.

We require an enthusiastic and professional officer to carry out investigations and enforce relevant Environmental Health Legislation in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. This will involve the investigation of Statutory Nuisance, particularly noise, dust and odour nuisance complaints. The role requires the investigation of breaches of legislation, the undertaking of enforcement action such as issuing statutory notices and the instigation of legal proceedings.

The post holder will also be required to provide specialist advise to planning and licensing committees.

Part of the role will include working outside of normal working hours, including the reactive night-time noise service operated in Cardiff.

About you

You will need:

Professional qualification (a degree or equivalent in one of the key service disciplines) Experience in the use of relevant legislation (especially around statutory nuisance), and a comprehensive understanding of the range of powers available to local authorities to resolve complex issues, and experience in the preparation of legal cases and control of evidence. The successful candidates will have the ability and drive to provide a customer focused, responsive, risk based, effective and professional service. Key requirements include very effective communication and team working skills, the ability and motivation to solve problems, personal credibility and an approach that builds rapport and confidence from customers.
