About the role and team
An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Environmental Health Officers or Food Safety Officers to join our ambitious and progressive Shared Environmental Health Partnership at Mole Valley and Tandridge District Councils and be valued members of a friendly and professional team.
The roles in the Commercial Team offer a wide range of challenges and opportunities to make a difference and contribute to the success of our shared service, whilst developing your own knowledge and experience.
The successful candidates will enjoy a range of duties, focusing on the inspection of food businesses in all risk categories, including approved establishments, the participation in sampling programmes, as well as the inspection of workplaces and the completion of nationally and locally agreed targeted health and safety projects.
In addition, there will be the opportunity to contribute to the risk assessment and monitoring of private water supplies, the investigation of infectious disease cases, the registration of premises and practitioners offering skin piercing treatments, together with playing a key role in supporting the service’s primary authority partnership agreements with several high-profile businesses.
Achieving all this will require flexibility, enthusiasm, good organisation skills and an interest in and knowledge of the topics involved. The role will involve working closely with colleagues, business proprietors and elected members and so will require excellent customer service and communication skills.
About you
The ideal candidates will be qualified and experienced in delivering official food controls, holding a BSc or MSc in Environmental Health and/or having successfully completed one of the pathways recognised by the CIEH to being a Registered Food Safety Practitioner, so possessing one of the relevant qualifications stipulated in the Food Law Code of Practice, as well as conformance with the Food Standards Agency’s Competency Framework.
Experience of promoting compliance through both a supportive as well as a staged approach to enforcement would be an advantage, as would a good working knowledge of current legislation.
You will manage your own caseload of food safety, health and safety at work-related inspections, interventions, and investigations of infectious disease, as well as service requests received from members of the public relating to commercial premises.
As well as working in a beautiful part of the country, amongst the Surrey Hills, further benefits will include flexible working, casual user car allowance, generous leave entitlement, the opportunity to complete additional training and personal development and payment of your CIEH membership fees.
If you are excited by this opportunity, are highly organised, positive and have a commercial awareness that allows you to develop excellent business opportunities and relationships, we would love to hear from you.
Hybrid working with flexibility
We’re less about you driving to work and more about driving down our carbon footprint (meeting our pledge to be carbon neutral by 2030).
Our hybrid working policy offers many employees the opportunity to work from home up to three days a week should they wish (pro rata for part time working).
In support of our people and our Climate Change Strategy, we welcome hybrid working and are happy to talk flexible working too. These roles are suitable for hybrid and/or flexible working, subject to meeting our service delivery commitment of being responsive to meet the needs of our residents and businesses.
