We are looking for a part time, permanent Environmental Health Officer to join our Food Health and Safety team.

As an enthusiastic professional qualified to Diploma or Degree level in Environmental Health and registered with the Environmental Health Registration Board (or equivalent), you will perform a varied role in the team and be able to meet the Food Standards Agency competency framework requirements detailed in food law code of practice. You will have an understanding of the effective application of related legislation along with knowledge and experience of enforcement work.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking proactive and reactive inspections for food hygiene and health & safety in a wide variety of premises.
  • Working with local businesses to maintain and improve standards.
  • Undertaking infectious disease and food poisoning investigations.
  • Inspecting and registering skin piercing activities.
  • Undertaking animal licencing visits (subject to qualification).
  • Investigating complaints, requests for service and RIDDOR reported Incidents. 
  • Achieving compliance using enforcement action when necessary.

You will be self-motivated, an effective communicator and have a commitment to excellent customer service. You will be able to deal effectively with difficult situations and adopt a risk based approach to achieve positive outcomes. A commitment to team working is essential as is having the ability to analyse complex information and make informed decisions when faced with conflicting demands. You will be required to meet deadlines and work within established procedures.
