Grade: Grade 9, SCP 31 - 35, £39,186 - £43,421
Closing Date: 17/04/2024
Permanent post, 37 hours per week
We are pleased to offer an opportunity for an Environmental Health Officer to join the busy Environmental Protection Team: an opportunity to embrace the challenge of delivering a key front line Environmental Health service in an expanding city with a diverse range of businesses.
You'll hold a relevant degree or diploma in Environmental Health, have experience of Statutory nuisance investigation and enforcement, experience in Development Control & Licensing consultations; and previous experience in noise control.
The post requires you to demonstrate effective communication and negotiation skills; be able to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with people, be flexible, and be confident in the relevant areas of regulatory enforcement. You will be capable of organising and prioritising your own work to meet challenging deadlines and you will operate in a self-sufficient manner. In Newport, no two days are the same and you can expect to gain broad and varied experiences while working here.
The main focus of the team is to deliver statutory Environmental Protection interventions across a wide variety of commercial, industrial and domestic settings. This will include:
- Undertaking statutory nuisance investigations
- Assisting the wider Community Protection team with anti-social behaviour investigations and enforcement
- Responding to Development Control & Licensing consultations
- Responding to Construction & demolition complaints and enquiries including Control of Pollution Act work
- Delivering Environmental Protection projects such as multi-agency waste enforcement operations and local air quality projects
- Event & festival noise monitoring
There will also be opportunity to assist with other areas of Environmental Health work such as Local Air Quality. This post offers real personal and professional development to the successful applicant.
Role Location: Officers in the team can work from the Civic Centre at the heart of Newport, can operate in a hybrid agile manner including working from home but with a clear expectation and need to visit commercial & industrial premises, domestic properties, and other locations across the City as and when needed; including into evenings or on weekends as service demands dictate.
Employment Benefits: Generous Annual Leave entitlement, Local Government Pension Scheme, Flexible and Agile working policies, Personal development opportunities; Active Travel routes into the city and Bike-to-Work scheme, VECTIS Employee benefits card.
Face to Face Interviews will occur in mid-April 2024.
