Salary: £46,050 - £62,390 per annum (inclusive of all allowances) depending on experience

Basis: Permanent, Full Time (35 hours per week)

We are inviting applications from enthusiastic Environmental Health Practitioners looking to enhance their experience in the heart of London. We are looking for people who can engage with our communities and businesses and have a real passion for improving the environment and public health. You will be highly motivated, with a flexible approach and an eagerness to develop existing competencies as well as attaining new skills.

You will be:

confident in the relevant areas of regulatory enforcement; comfortable operating in challenging circumstances such as: Outbreak Investigations, Accident Investigations or complex workplace complaints including working with Primary Authority Partners; an excellent communicator with the ability to explain, negotiate and influence businesses; able to work under pressure and capable of organising and prioritising your own work to meet challenging deadlines; and content to operate in both a self-sufficient, agile manner and as part of a high performing team. You will have the opportunity to gain or enhance your experience in all areas of the team’s work.

ACTIVITIES

You will contribute to the delivery of a full range of Commercial Environmental Health activities. The work of the team is an interesting mix of, Food Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, Public Health (including Infectious Disease Control) and Primary Authority Partnership (PAP) work across a range of environments and business types.

As an authorised officer you will manage and deliver food hygiene and standards inspections, demonstrating you have the required skills, applying the necessary behaviours and building on the knowledge, experience and skills you have already acquired.

Occasional work could be required elsewhere including at our Port Health Service and with partner organisations to complete defined project work and/or to further your competencies and experience. There is an on-call Duty Rota for out of hours and the successful candidate will be a part of this rota.

QUALIFICATIONS

We can only interview applicants who hold the necessary BSc, MSc or apprenticeship qualification and who are either Registered with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) FAQs - CIEH or who are currently completing their Environmental Health Practitioner (EHP) portfolio including those awaiting their professional discussion. Applicants should have relevant competency in the delivery of official food controls (within the meaning of the Food Law Code)

Please note: We will not accept applications for those still undertaking the academic element of the qualification; accredited BSc, MSc or apprenticeship, including those awaiting confirmation of their result as evidence of this qualification will be required.

You should be able to communicate effectively, prioritise and organise your workload, both case work and project work.

You will need computer skills for Microsoft office suite and training will be given for other specialist computer systems. Experience of IDOX Uniform is desirable but not essential.
