We have an exciting opportunity at Havant Borough Council for a Senior Grants Officer. 

Based in our modern Plaza building in Havant, with easy access to transport links and local shops, we offer a flexible working environment with attendance in the office combined with some remote working dependent on the requirements of the service.

We’re currently seeking a dynamic and customer focused individual to drive the delivery of an efficient and effective team delivering services for adaptations to promote independent living with the homes of disabled and vulnerable residents. 

You will need a broad and detailed knowledge of Disabled Facilities Grant legislation and an ability to interpret the information and apply it within working practice.

Your role will be to approve grants and make payments in line with delegated powers, and to provide management information.

You'll support the Private Sector Housing Team Leader and deputise for them from time to time, within their specific area of expertise.

You will develop and review Council policies in line with statutory and local requirements, taking account of Government legislation and guidance, case law, local challenges and views of residents and customers.

You will be able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of construction in a range of domestic property styles and construction types and be able to demonstrate your ability to deal with customers which may involve sensitive issues.

The production of schedules of works and specifications for a range of works.

You will need experience of working in a fast-paced front-line service, the production of schedules of work and specifications for a range of works including, level access showers, lifts, stair lifts, ramps, and extensions. 

Previous experience of working with disabled people/Occupational Therapists/Surveyors and Technical Officers, and the ability to interpret an Occupational Therapist referral, undertake a feasibility visit and design adaptations that meets the requirements of the referral.

Educated to A level or equivalent standard or education, with knowledge and experience of building repair and or property maintenance.   Proficient IT skills.

But above all else if you’re a team player that can operate on their own initiative, have excellent interpersonal skills and the aptitude to deliver an outstanding service, then you are the kind of person we want to hear from.

The successful candidate will need to:

  • Hold a full clean driving licence and have access to their own vehicle for business use.  
  • Be able to travel to various locations and the ability to work unsociable hours, if necessary. 
  • A satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check
