Regulatory Services at Barnsley protect the health, safety and well-being of those who live, work in and visit the borough, enabling local businesses to comply with their regulatory responsibilities. You will primarily be involved in working on health and safety related work including targeted inspections, complaints and accident investigations.

Creativity, ambition and a focus on people. That’s what matters at Barnsley Council. Our award-winning council is on an exciting journey of change. It’s all about putting local people at the heart of everything, listening to and doing good for our communities. We’re now more innovative, more efficient and provide better value for money. The changes are clear to see - from new businesses and jobs, to improving school results and to museums being recognised for their community engagement.

We’d like you to be part of our success and help us take change further. Join us on our journey to a brighter future. By working together, with each other and with our communities, we can take pride in improving lives. Let’s make a better Barnsley for everyone.

Your role in our journey

The post is a job share post (18.5 hours, 2 and a half days a week) within our Health and Safety team. What you’ll need

You will need a level 6 specialist degree in Environmental Health and the Certificate of Registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board.

A recognised qualification relevant to the work of the team, will unlock higher level positions dependent on your relevant professional experience. Knowledge of regulatory services and health and safety legislation is essential. Whatever level you join us at, you will also bring to the role a commitment to work flexibly, and an appetite for engaging in continuous training and professional development in this rewarding field of work.

So we’ve created a development process that lets you grow in the way that suits you - whether that’s training to be a leader, or learning flexibly online.
