Buckingham Futures are working on behalf of our Local Authority client in Derbyshire to provide an Animal Licensing Inspector. Your role will be to take a key role in ensuring the effective inspection and compliance of all premises subject the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) Regulations 2018, The Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976 and Zoo Licensing Act 1981and other legislation appertaining to the keeping of animals at domestic and commercial premises.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
l Carry out compliance inspections of all premises already licensed or requesting a license under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) Regulations 2018 in accordance with the procedural guidance issued by DEFRA.
l Carry out compliance inspections of all premises already licensed, requesting a licence, or renewing a licence under the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976.
l Carry out compliance inspections of all premises already licensed or requesting a license under the Zoo Licensing Act 1981 in accordance with the current Secretary of States Standards of Modern Zoo Practice.
l Respond to complaints from members of the public and enquiries from business owners relating to the above licensed premises.
l Assist the Licensing department by carrying out research and gathering intelligence relating to the operation of businesses or collections of animals which require a license but have not applied.
l Where evidence of non-compliance is found compile and gather evidence to support formal action including carrying out formal interviews under caution and obtaining witness statements.
l Update and maintain accurate and timely records and produce inspection reports to support the delivery of the Licensing regime.
l Identify issues which may require enforcement under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and regulations made there under during licensing inspections.
Skills and Qualifications
l Hold a Level 3 certificate or equivalent granted by a body, recognised and regulated by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation which oversees the training and assessment of persons in inspecting and licensing animal activities businesses, confirming the passing of an independent examination.
l Previous regulatory enforcement experience of the Zoo Licensing, Dangerous Wild Animal Acts or the Animal Welfare Act.
l Sound Basic knowledge of Animal husbandry and behaviour traits for a variety of species of Animals.
