Are you passionate about ensuring people have a healthy and safe place to live?  Are you looking to be part of a supportive team working within a seaside borough where no two days are the same?

If yes, we would like to hear from you.

Great Yarmouth is a leading holiday resort on the edge of the Broads National Park, with a diverse town and thriving surrounding villages. Norfolk is a great place to live and work. The area has miles of stunning coastline to enjoy and is within easy reach of the very cosmopolitan city of Norwich.

Great Yarmouth Borough Council is an ambitious local authority with big plans for the future and significant opportunities ahead. Working with partners, both locally and nationally, the Council is driving forward an exciting area-based agenda. All Council services play their part in achieving our vision, focussed around a strong and growing economy, improved housing and strong communities, high-quality and sustainable environment, and an efficient and effective Council.

In recent years the private rented sector has grown dramatically across the borough, and it now provides around 21.5% of the housing stock. We recognise the importance the sector plays in housing residents of our borough and are committed to raising standards further using legislative powers. Improved housing and strong communities are recognised as one of the Council’s key priorities and the Council is looking for an individual with a desire to improve the housing conditions for residents in the borough.

We are looking for an experienced manager with great leadership skills to join the team at a pivotal time with the implementation of national changes to legislation and the Councils aspirations to tackle the issues of poor accommodation, illegal HMOs and rogue landlords.

If you are a motivated, dynamic, enthusiastic, and successful leader then this is the role for you, with plenty of opportunity to shape the team you manage and the service, as we modernise the way we work to deliver a high-quality service the residents and visitors of the Borough.

The successful post holder will have a track record of successful leadership and project delivery, be able to influence and negotiate and be politically astute. They will thrive in a busy environment and enjoy a challenge.

We are looking for candidates who have a degree or diploma in Environmental Health with a solid knowledge across environmental health. Private sector housing legislation is preferential; however, we will consider applications from those with significant experience running any frontline environmental health team, as full housing training will be provided.

The team work on occasion, outside normal office hours and you would be expected to partake as required.  You would also be expected to participate in the standby rota which attracts an additional payment.

What we can offer you:

If you feel you can offer all the above and more, then we can offer you fantastic training and a career for life within a friendly and supportive working environment with attractive terms and conditions.

We offer the following benefits:

·        Agile working

·        Local Government Pension Scheme

·        Generous holiday entitlement

·        Essential car user allowance (£846/£963 per annum)

·        Flexible working

·        Relocations package (where applicable)

·        Health, well-being, and employee assistance programme

·        Cycle to work scheme

·        Discounts on a range of UK’s major retailers including technology, fashion, supermarkets, travel and more

·        Free eye tests

·        CIEH membership fees

If this sounds like the role for you, then we look forward to hearing from you.
