My client in West London is recruiting for a Health and Safety Officer to work on an interim basis.
To promote and work with managers in determining safe working practices, ensuring that all service areas have suitable and sufficient risk assessments for their operations and activities and effective risk control measures are stored on the Safety Organiser
To maintain up to date knowledge of current and new legislative requirements, relating to health and safety issues, in order to interpret, evaluate and advise management on the implications of such legislation on service delivery.
Undertake planned health and safety audits and workplace inspections as well as ad-hoc site visits and inspections of any Council workplace, operation or activity to audit compliance with regulations and procedures. This shall include the provision of reports to highlight where risk assessments and technical input and remedial actions are required.
Liaise closely with the HR team and Managers regarding matters of concern in connection with specialist risk assessments and training and support requirements
To ensure general administration of the Health and Safety service is carried out in an accurate and timely manner
To maintain, review and revise first aid arrangements, organising appropriate training as necessary.
To coordinate quarterly Depot Health and Safety Committee meetings and provide advice and support to the chair of the Depot Health and Safety Committee.
To provide support, advise and facilitate training on employer’s and employees’ health and safety responsibilities, including induction, assorted Health and Safety awareness training and
safety organiser
Carry out investigations of all incidents and recommend measures to prevent recurrence.
Ensure the Employee and Councillor protection registers are maintained and disseminated as required.
Coordinate and administer programmes for Health Surveillance and Screening.
Provide a direct input in the event of an emergency. Assist and administer the Emergency Planning function.
To coordinate Safety Advisory Group meetings, provide advice and support to event organisers when appropriate
To deputise the health and safety function in the absence of the Health and Safety Manager.
Carry out any other duties that are within the scope and grading of the post which could also be requested by the line manager or Head of Service.
NB - The main duties for this EHO role will be carrying out health and safety inspections for specific projects such as in our Hotels for asbestos management, gas safety, welfare and catering premises for gas safety and carbon monoxide from solid fuels. This officer will also be responsible for investigating accidents, complaints, lift defects etc.
