The Job

Cherwell District Council is looking for an enthusiastic Environmental Health Officer or Environmental Health Technical Officer to help grow its small but experienced Housing Standards Team.
In this role you will work as part of the team to carry out housing inspection and enforcement to drive up housing standards across the district. This will include proactive and reactive interventions, HHSRS inspections and HMO enforcement, mandatory HMO licensing, and Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards enforcement.
You will also provide expert advice and guidance to landlords, tenants, and homeowners, and assist in administering grants and loans so we can help the most vulnerable households in the district.

The Person

The ideal candidate will have a good knowledge of building construction, detailed knowledge of the relevant housing and environmental health legislation including Housing Act 2004, and have enforcement experience. However, we have a proud track record of supporting EHOs to qualify and full training will be provided so we encourage any EHOs or Technical Officers with transferrable environmental health experience who are looking for a new challenge in a diverse district to consider applying.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, have excellent organisational and communication skills, and able to prioritise effectively to manage a busy caseload. We are looking for someone who can think creatively, shows initiative, and has a willingness to learn and develop their knowledge and skills. You will need to produce excellent work independently and collaborate effectively as part of the team and with our partners to maximise outcomes for our customers.
If you think you are ready to play a big part in a high performing team, we would love to hear from you.

The Benefits

The Council is an equal opportunities employer and has flexible working practices.
• A generous annual leave entitlement
• Opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme
• Cycle to work scheme (after one years’ service)
• Incremental pay award (awarded annually in April after one years’ service)

Closing date Monday 16 October 2023

Interview date Wednesday 25 October 2023
