I’m working with a West Midlands-based local authority who is looking for a Housing Standards manager for an initial 6 months with likely extension beyond this. This role is full-time with hybrid working, offering £300-£350 per day.
At the heart of this role lies the opportunity to lead a team of officers with a singular goal: to uplift housing standards and boost accessibility within the private rented sector. From licensing HMOs to countering illegal eviction and harassment, from reviving empty homes to dealing with unauthorised traveller encampments, this role encompasses a diverse spectrum of responsibilities.
You’ll act as a member of the section's management team supporting overall policy development, strategic direction, and budgetary control in collaboration with the Head of Service.
Main duties will include:
• Dive into the field with site visits, enforcement actions, and necessary administrative tasks.
• Expect to perform inspections, surveys, and assessments that directly contribute to the PSHE team's objectives.
• Attend Court and Public Inquiries, representing and providing evidence on the legislation enforced by your division. You'll oversee the supervision of officers and consultants when required.
• Establish connections and collaborate with a diverse array of professionals – solicitors, architects, structural engineers, chartered surveyors, and building contractors – all working towards the team's goals.
• Engage in Performance Review and Development meetings, investing in your own growth through targeted training and skill enhancement.
You’ll ideally have a proven track record of senior management experience as well as an in-depth understanding of relevant private sector housing legislation.
Please note that a driving license is needed for this role.
If you feel this is the opportunity for you or someone you know, please contact Michael on 07821 680 247 or by emailing michael.williams@oysterpartnership.com.
We would like to attract talent from all corners of the Environmental Health world for this role. Our commitment is to an equitable recruitment process so feel free to apply in any way that suits you, via Whatsapp, video message, CV, the more creative the better.
