Information re. the role:

The Government of Jersey’s Environmental Health team are responsible for improving food hygiene and minimising infectious disease  in an island community of just over 100,000 people.

We are seeking a qualified environmental health officer to relocate to Jersey on a permanent contract or fixed term contract of up to 16 months.

You’ll be at the frontline, creating rules and regulations that are socially responsible, fair and reasonable for our Island. You’ll also be responsible for making sure that all our plans and activities are sustainable and fulfil our obligations not just within our Island, but also nationally and internationally.

This position focuses on building partnerships and relationships, and includes proactive advisory visits to protect public health. The team works closely with the Jersey Hospitality Association and other industry bodies to ensure the best food safety and hygiene standards are upheld in Jersey.

Our team take pride in proactively influencing the environmental health process by reviewing and helping to improve a small community. Visits and inspections can range from home-based cupcake businesses to Michelin starred restaurants, music festivals and everything in between!

This role involves carrying out effective methods of persuasive compliance, by following up on cases and working with stakeholders to advise on potential remedies to issues. Prosecution is a last resort, but undertaken where necessary.

Professionally there will be opportunities to access numerous training, development and progression prospects. Working in environmental health in the Channel Islands provides you with unique opportunities to be involved in guidance and law development, as well being on the ground meeting the public.
