An opportunity has arisen in our Environmental Protection Team to apply for the post of Environmental Health Officer.

The post will provide a wide range of experiences for the successful candidate and will involve dealing with Environmental Protection functions including noise control and statutory nuisance investigations amongst others.

This is an area of work that can be as rewarding as it can be challenging, and you’ll have a chance to make a positive difference to people’s lives. Being able to work well with colleagues and members of the public will therefore be essential.

We are looking for applicants who are highly self-motivated and who can make a positive difference. You must be enthusiastic, effective, and be passionate about the delivery of excellent public sector services.

You will be required to have the necessary skills to deal with challenging situations, be able to offer practical advice, to carry out enforcement as required, be innovative in your approach to finding resolutions to cases and problem solve issues by working collaboratively with other officers/agencies.

The ability to travel within the County will be essential.

The successful applicant will be expected to form and maintain excellent working relationships with those in other Teams, and external partners.

You will need to demonstrate a willingness to learn in a fast changing environment and to develop awareness of relevant legislation, guidance and good practice in this area of work.

In addition to the salary, you will benefit from a flexible approach to working hours and locations  (including home working) helping you to achieve a healthy work / life balance.

There will also be training opportunities and experiences which will help in any future employment opportunities at the end of the contract, within or outside the Council.

For an informal discussion, please contact Robert Williams, Public Health and Pollution Lead at RDWilliams@carmarthenshire.gov.uk

You will need a good level of conversational Welsh. Reasonable support can be provided on appointment to reach this level.
