There is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic individual, to join the Air Quality & Environmental Protection Service and help protect the health and wellbeing of residents and businesses.

About the Job

The Air Quality & Environmental Protection Service is a diverse team with a high level of expertise in noise and acoustics, statutory nuisance (noise, smoke, dust, light, odour), air quality, contaminated land and environmental permitting.         

The purpose of this role is to carry out statutory functions on all aspects of programmed noise work, including:

  • Review, assess and provide consultation comments on planning applications, in respect of noise.
  • Undertake investigations, in relation to noise statutory nuisance, in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and Council’s relevant policies and procedures.
  • Review Section 61 applications and grant consents, under the Control of Pollution Act 1974.
  • Review licensing applications and Temporary Event Notices and provide comments, in respect of noise.
  • Act as the Council’s Environmental Protection representative at liaison / forum meetings

You will work closely with the team’s members, as well as with colleagues from other services, such as the ASB team, Property Licensing, Planning Enforcement and external stakeholders, as part of case investigations and other project work. To successfully fulfil the role’s duties and responsibilities, you will be expected to carry out office-based work, as well as site visits.

About You

Along with a B.Sc. or equivalent academic or professional qualification in Environmental Health, you will possess technical knowledge and / or experience in noise control.

You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability of managing effectively your own workload, to meet deadlines and maintaining satisfactory work records. You will also be passionate about delivering a high-quality customer service and have an enthusiastic can-do attitude.

Good ICT, organisational and report writing skills are essential.

Additional qualifications in the relevant areas of noise control (e.g., Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control) would be an advantage.
