Salary: £31,099- £35,411 for the level 6 role

Salary: £36,298 to £41,496 per annum for the level 7 role

A Local Weighting Allowance of £1002 is also payable

Contract type: Full time - Permanent

Location: Hybrid working; district and working from home

If you are an experienced environmental health or housing professional, educated to degree level or equivalent within relevant professional or technical area then we have exciting opportunities for you to join our team.

You will be responsible for supervising and mentoring officers, providing them with specialist advice relating to housing standards and the Housing Health and Safety Rating System, property licensing, and the investigation of housing related offences, as well as well as managing a case load.

The successful candidate will need to have extensive knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance as well as Membership of a relevant professional body e.g., CIEH, with relevant experience of implementing a variety of regulatory interventions designed to improve housing quality or protect the safety of residents.

Some experience in a supervisory or management role in environmental health is desirable, but not essential.

For the Environmental Health roles, the successful applicant will meet the Food Hygiene qualification requirements of the Food Law Code of Practice and be an organised, motivated, and enthusiastic individual with excellent communication and time management skills. Consideration will be given to newly qualified EHO’s who have signed up to the CIEH EHP pathway to registration.

For the Housing Regulation Lead role, you will be required to work as part of a dedicated team focusing on the inspection, regulation, and statutory enforcement of housing standards specifically in relation privately rented properties and Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO’s) using the full remit of housing legislation including statutory and discretionary licensing, service of statutory notices, prosecution, works in default and Management Orders pursuant to the Housing Act 2004.

To mentor and manage officers within the team and to provide quality assurance and oversight of regulatory decisions made by supervisees, as well as critical review of enforcement notices, reports, and legal case files.

Manage a team of Housing Regulation Officers undertaking inspection, regulation, and enforcement action in sometimes hostile and unwelcome environments, occasionally at anti-social hours and responsible for inspecting, regulating and then enforcing appropriate national and local standards on rented properties and against private sector landlords.

To manage own case load, inspecting properties in response to service requests and assessing hazards using the HHSRS; and carrying out complex investigations involving the full range of investigative techniques e.g., undertaking interviews under caution in accordance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 and associated codes of practice.
