Are you committed to protecting people’s health through improving the environment, and looking for a move to a job where you can make a difference? If you are, read on.

Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council is a busy unitary authority in east Lancashire. Blackburn and Darwen are vibrant towns surrounded by beautiful countryside and within easy reach of Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and Preston, the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District.

The Council has been a unitary authority for over 20 years and has a multi-disciplinary Public Protection and Environmental Health Service, which is known for its can-do attitude and problem solving approach to enforcement. We pride ourselves in being forward thinking, using relative legislation to deliver desired outcomes.

This rare and exciting opportunity is for a highly organised and enthusiastic individual to join our friendly and supportive Environmental Protection team. The Team deals with most areas of environmental protection work, including complex nuisance investigations, planning and licensing consultations, managing and supporting the work of our public protection and environmental protection officers and a strong focus on contaminated land.

Our ideal candidate will have a good knowledge and experience of the full range of environmental protection legislation, and significant practical experience in enforcing it. The vacancy is for one post, but appointment would be made to the appropriate role, depending on the successful candidate’s background and experience. There are different job specifications dependant on the level.

We pride ourselves in offering a friendly, supportive and flexible working environment, with a competitive salary, generous annual leave entitlement, training opportunities, Local Government Pension Scheme and other benefits.

For an informal conversation about the role please contact John Wood on 01254 585585 or e-mail john.wood@blackburn.gov.uk.
