    About the role...

    We are seeking to appoint an Environmental Health Officer to join the Housing Standards team.

    The post holder will undertake a full range of private sector housing duties including licensing of houses in multiple occupation and Disabled Facilities Grant work.

    If you are an Environmental Health Practitioner with an up to date working knowledge and recent experience of enforcing housing and public health law we would love to hear from you.

    Key Duties include:

  • To carry out the inspection of properties and houses in multiple occupation for the purpose of enforcement of appropriate legislation and for housing grant and loan purposes; to provide advice and to ensure that resulting programmes of action are achieved.
  • To assist in the formulation, specification, implementation and administration of grant, loan and works schemes pursuant to Council policy.
  • To participate in housing surveys to ascertain the condition of houses in the Borough, relating to individual properties, where area-based action is being considered, or in connection with the control of HMOs.
  • To liaise with officers from Building Control, Environmental Health, Public Protection, Development Control and Conservation on matters relating to enforcement schemes and where necessary, to advise clients of the need to seek statutory approvals, ensuring a consistent corporate approach.
  • To be successful you will need…

  •  A degree, MSc or equivalent in Environmental Health.
  • HHSRS training qualifications including HHSRS assessment and HHSRS enforcement.
  • Relevant experience of Housing and Public Health Act enforcement;
  • A good level of IT skills - MS Office
  • To be able to communicate effectively at all levels (excellent verbal and written skills)
