SENIOR TECHNICIAN - Housing Enforcement

Public Protection & Neighbourhoods Team

Salary N6 (£28,371 - £31,099) depending on experience

We are seeking several enthusiastic, self-motivated Technical Officers to work within our Public Protection & Neighbourhoods team. Full Time and Part Time hours will be considered

This is an exciting time to join the team as we deliver a new Additional and Selective licensing scheme which commenced in April 2020.

The team deal with a wide range of housing related issues including housing standards, noise and anti-social behaviour, public health nuisances and property licensing.

What you will be doing:
• Assisting the team in their duties under with the Housing Act 2004 and other relevant legislation
• The regulation of private rented properties subject to HMO (House in Multiple Occupation) and Selective Licensing.
• The investigation of complaints relating to
• property disrepair,
• noise and anti-social behaviour
• public health nuisances
• Taking informal and formal enforcement action including legal notices and criminal prosecutions
• Using intelligence to target landlord and letting agents of concern

What we are looking for
• A knowledge the technical aspects of enforcement
• An ability to work alone or as part of a team
• An ability to dealing effectively with members of the public including tenants, landlords and managing agents
• Excellent communication skills
• Computer skills
• An ability to organise and manage your workload to meet team objectives.
• A good understanding of the regulatory framework, guidance, and good practice in relation to the Housing Standards, noise and anti-social behaviour, and HMO and Selective licensing.
• A proven ability to deliver services

You will be agile working from home and Newcastle Civic Centre. You will be provided with a laptop and other essential equipment. There will be opportunities to colleagues on a regular basis.
