East Suffolk Council is a progressive, forward-thinking organisation with strong values and a range of clear strategic ambitious plans to grow and develop our organisation, people and services. Sometimes referred to as a ‘Super district’, East Suffolk is home to 250,000 residents and to an exceptionally diverse economy and range of communities.

Your role:

Our Environmental Protection team is expanding to meet the exciting challenges ahead including numerous Nationally Significant Infrastructure projects such as Sizewell C, Lowestoft flood defences and Gull Wing bridge. We are looking to recruit three Environmental Protection Technical Officers to support the delivery of the full range of statutory services for which the council is responsible in relation to environmental protection such as pollution, air quality, noise, private water supplies and public health controls.

Dealing with the public on a daily basis, we are looking for exceptional individuals with the ability to undertake a range of environmental health activities including inspections, monitoring, measurement, examinations, Local Air Quality Management, contaminated land, surveillance and sampling in respect of all areas of environmental protection including dealing with noise pollution and pollution to air, land and water to ensure compliance with statutory requirements. You will also be required to work outside normal office hours to meet the demands of the service.

What you will need:

You should as a minimum hold a level 3 qualification in a relevant discipline and be able to show competence and relevant experience in one or more core areas of the job description. We are keen to consider applicants with experience in contaminated land, air quality and private water supplies and can offer training and development opportunities. We also welcome applications from those with higher-level qualifications in a relevant environmental protection-related subject. You will be appointed within the above salary range according to qualifications, experience and competence.

If you think you have what it takes to be successful in this role, even if you don’t meet all of the essential requirements, please apply. We would appreciate the opportunity to consider your application.
