East Suffolk Council is a progressive, forward-thinking organisation with strong values and a range of clear strategic ambitious plans to grow and develop our organisation, people and services. Sometimes referred to as a ‘Super district’, East Suffolk is home to 250,000 residents and to an exceptionally diverse economy and range of communities.

Your role:

We are looking to recruit an additional Environmental Protection Officer to join our experienced Environmental Protection team which is currently expanding to meet the exciting challenges ahead. As well as undertaking the full range of environmental protection, pollution and public health controls to meet the council’s statutory obligations, you will have the opportunity to input your environmental expertise into exciting nationally significant infrastructure projects such as Sizewell C and the Lowestoft Flood Barrier.

What you will need:

You should hold a degree or equivalent level qualification in Environmental Health or an Environmental Protection related subject with membership of a relevant professional body. You should have detailed knowledge and understanding of the regulatory requirements and guidance relating to environmental protection, pollution control, air quality, contaminated land and public health enforcement. Relevant experience in Environmental Health or a closely related environmental protection discipline would be a distinct advantage, as will an understanding and experience of the IT systems which support the work of an Environmental Protection team. You should also be able to work outside normal office hours on occasion to meet the demands of the service.

If you think you have what it takes to be successful in this role, even if you don’t meet all of the essential requirements, please apply. We would appreciate the opportunity to consider your application.
