Covering the whole of the Bath and North East Somerset area including the World Heritage City of Bath, Housing Services administers mandatory Disabled Facilities Grants with the Council’s Occupational Therapy service. The service has an important role to play in helping to adapt existing homes to promote independent living with the B&NES area.

We aim for high standards of customer service and are seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Housing Standards and Improvement Team.

We are looking for a qualified Environmental Health Officer to action all stages of the processing of Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG) including the assessment of eligibility for mandatory and discretionary grants. The focus is on home visits and assisting the client with the making of a valid DFG application through to the satisfactory completion of work.  Applications from environmental health officers with competence in this area of work are invited.

Applicants will need to meet the requirements of the person specification which include:

  • A degree in Environmental Health or equivalent
  • An understanding of the Disabled Facilities Grant legislation and process
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • High levels of commitment, flexibility and enthusiasm
  • An understanding of housing law, particularly assessment and enforcement of the Housing Act 2004 in relation to the Housing Health and Safety Rating System.
