DEPARTMENT FOR BUSINESS, ENERGY & INDUSTRIAL STRATEGY
Office for Product Safety & Standards
Business Compliance Manager
£50,305 - £57,760
Birmingham + home-based working
Support business by developing and enforcing regulation for construction products
The challenge
Regulation is a powerful Government tool to address market failures, influence behaviour and promote positive action. Crafted and delivered well, regulation can be an enabler of growth, innovation and efficiency. Here at the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS), part of the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), our goal is to be a trusted product regulator for the UK. Join OPSS as part of the expanding Business Compliance Team, and together we’ll make regulation work to deliver real world impact.
About the role
We’re currently supporting the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities in developing construction product regulations. This involves working with our partners in Government, local authorities and elsewhere to ensure compliance and build public confidence in the safety and performance of construction products. In this purposeful and multi-faceted role you will have specific responsibility for planning and developing our regulatory capacity, capability and operational approach. You will lead targeted investigations and interventions and take proportionate enforcement action. You will also provide leadership to a team of officers: coaching, mentoring and developing them to ensure they achieve their full potential.
About you
Flexible and results-oriented, you’ll be ready to take the lead and create positive change within and beyond OPSS. You will bring experience of operating within a regulatory compliance environment where you will have had to understand and apply technical information across diverse sectors and business types. The ability to scope, plan and guide the delivery of results-oriented, multi-layered work plans is essential. An excellent communicator, you’ll also need strategic problem-solving and analytical skills, coupled with evidence of good decision-making capabilities.
Benefits
We offer a range of benefits including a generous leave allowance, flexible working options, learning and development tailored to your role, and a Civil Service pension.
Closing date: 23:55, Tuesday 29 November 2022.
