An exciting opportunity has arisen within Harts Environmental Health team, within the Place Directorate, for a Principal Environmental Health Practitioner. The successful applicant will be a part of a team of 4, supporting Harts Environmental Health and Licensing services.  You will get involved in delivering a diverse range of regulatory functions, and take a lead in delivering core Environmental Protection services.

The Applicant

The key responsibilities for the role of Principal Environmental Health Practitioner are as follows:

  • Lead responsibility for delivering core environmental protection functions.
    • These include: Statutory nuisance investigations, Environmental Permitting, Local Air Quality Management, Licensing Act 2003 consultations, public health investigations, contaminated land regulation, private water supplies, noise control and acoustics, invasive therapies, fly-tipping enforcement, pest control, animal welfare licensing, and planning consultations.
  • Provide a technical lead to the team on Environmental Protection functions and implementing new legislation.
  • Undertake Statutory Nuisance investigations and lead enforcement actions
  • Respond to consultations as a statutory consultee in relation to planning, licensing, contaminated land and public event safety
  • Undertake workload allocation and performance monitoring within team  
  • Develop and maintain policy, and systems for Environmental Protection, Public Health and Animal Welfare Licensing.
  • Handle complex, sensitive and/or priority cases in line with experience
  • Work with key stakeholders to develop, promote, and innovate Environmental Protection services.
  • To deputise for the Environmental Health and Licensing manager as may be required
