An opportunity has arisen to apply for the post of Environmental Health Officer in our Environmental Protection Section.

The post will provide a wide range of experiences for the successful candidate and will involve dealing with Environmental Protection functions, with a particular emphasis on Planning consultations. The position will need to provide professional and expert advice and review impact assessments and reports to ensure environmental impacts are considered during the planning process. You may also have opportunities to deal with other areas of work such as Statutory Nuisance investigations if required.

This is an area of work that can be as rewarding as it can be challenging, and you’ll have a chance to make a positive difference to people’s lives. Being able to work well with colleagues and members of the public will therefore be essential.

We are looking for applicants who are highly self-motivated and who can make a positive difference. You must be enthusiastic, effective, and be passionate about the delivery of excellent public sector services. You will be required to have the necessary skills to deal with challenging situations, be able to offer practical advice, to carry out enforcement as required, be innovative in your approach to finding resolutions to cases and problem solve issues by working collaboratively with other officers/agencies. The ability to travel within the County will be essential.

The successful applicant will be expected to form and maintain excellent working relationships with those in other Teams, and external partners.

You will need to demonstrate a willingness to learn in a fast-changing environment and to develop awareness of relevant legislation, guidance and good practice in this area of work.

In addition to the salary, you will benefit from a flexible approach to working hours and locations  (including home working) helping you to achieve a healthy work / life balance.

For an informal discussion, please contact Robert Williams, Public Health Lead on 07827820482 RDWilliams@carmarthenshire.gov.uk

You will need a good level of conversational Welsh. Support can be provided on appointment to reach this level.
