At Swindon Borough Council, we want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that’s who we’re doing it for – the communities and businesses that make our town great. As part of the Council, you’ll support a friendly local authority making decisions with real impact. It’s all for better public services, better processes and a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.

At Swindon Borough Council, we have a clear vision of what we want the future to look like. We are ranked in the top 10 most highly innovative areas in the UK and are looking for two enthusiastic licensing officers to join our team who will play an important part in all the regulatory licensing functions of the council.

Your next role

The Licensing Team is structured to ensure it is modern, efficient and effective and meets the demands for today and tomorrow.  The Licensing Officer covers the full range of licensing matters including Taxi Licensing, Animal Welfare Licensing, Street Trading, Skin Piercing and Tattooing, Events and Premises Licensing.  We are keen to secure generic working across the entire licensing discipline.  For the right candidate they may be able to undertake some team management responsibility.

We have two Licensing Officer vacancies:

•    Licensing Officer (Animal Welfare) requires some experience in Animal Welfare Licensing and appropriate qualifications
•    Licensing Officer will cover all licensing matters ideally with a specialism around skin piercing and tattooing and street trading

The posts are offered as career graded roles and although we are seeking to recruit experienced Licensing Officers we will consider applications for consideration as a trainee developmental role for the right candidate.

This is a busy and friendly team working within the Council’s Regulatory Services department, which also includes Building Control, Trading Standards and Planning Enforcement.

You will be required to be self-motivated with good time management skills in order to manage and prioritise your workload.  You will possess excellent people skills allied with the proven ability to listen, explain, negotiate and influence. You will have a track record of good performance and will be able to work flexibly.

A basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be required for this position.

Candidates must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).

Your next package

Please see our Rewards and Benefits offer for more details.

As an employee, you will receive a diverse and exciting environment in which to work, encouraging creativity and innovation whilst recognising the need to support ongoing personal development and a flexible work life balance.

For Swindon to thrive in the future, we need to lay the foundations now. It’s why our regeneration and transformation programmes are already underway. So, you’ll be joining us at an exciting time on our journey. We’ll look to you to share your knowledge, influence decisions and drive real, positive change. With your contributions, we’ll achieve our vision of a prosperous, re-vitalised Swindon by 2030 together. And you’ll be proud to say it was made better with you.
