Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council is a busy unitary authority in east Lancashire. Blackburn and Darwen are vibrant towns surrounded by beautiful countryside and within easy reach of Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and Preston, the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District.
The Council has been a unitary authority for over 20 years and has a multi-disciplinary Public Protection and Environmental Health Service, which is known for its can-do attitude and problem solving approach to enforcement.
We have a rare and exciting opportunity for a highly organised and enthusiastic Senior Environmental Health Officer to join our friendly and supportive Environmental Protection team.
The team deals with most areas of environmental protection work, from statutory nuisance to air quality and some public health functions.
The ideal candidate will have a thorough knowledge and experience of the full range of environmental protection legislation, and significant practical experience in enforcing it.
You would be responsible for a wide and varied workload, including, undertaking complex nuisance investigations, responding to planning and licensing consultations, permitted process inspections, managing the council’s air quality monitoring program and managing and supporting the work of our public protection and environmental protection officers.
In return, we can offer a friendly, supportive and flexible working environment, competitive salary, generous annual leave entitlement, training opportunities, Local Government Pension Scheme and other benefits.
