Are you a qualified and experienced environmental health practitioner looking to develop your career?
We have an exciting opportunity for a principal environmental health officer to join us. You will be supervising a team focussed on environmental protection, so you should have some experience of supporting colleagues to deliver environmental health services.
You will need practical experience of working with residents and businesses to ensure they comply with environmental protection legislation, particularly statutory nuisance. We know that advice and education are key to achieving compliance, but you should also be confident about taking enforcement action when necessary. You will need a good technical understanding of environmental protection matters, particularly the control of noise as resolving complaints to the customers satisfaction is a key part of this role. You will also consider planning applications, so you should have some experience of development control.
Southampton City Council is an urban, unitary authority with a major port, a vibrant night-time economy and two universities, so the work will be varied and challenging.
