Senior Environmental Health Officer / Technical Officer (Food & Health & Safety)

Location: Braintree, Essex

Salary: Career grade 4-5, £30,405 - £38,946 per annum (Pro rata)

Contract type: Permanent

Hours: Part time, 22.5 hours per week, (three days)

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Environmental Health Officer / Technical Officer to join our Food, Health and Safety and Licensing team.

Working as a District Officer you will take on a wide range of duties including food hygiene and health and safety inspections, sampling and investigation work including accidents, health and safety / food complaints, infectious disease and food borne disease. You will also respond to planning and licensing consultations and will advise, educate, and take appropriate enforcement action where required.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated team player with excellent communication skills. You must be able to work with minimal supervision and be flexible with your working hours as some out of hours inspections / visits will be required.  You will have recent food hygiene regulatory experience and must meet the baseline qualification requirements of the FSA Food Law competency framework. Health and safety regulatory experience is desirable.

This is a career-graded post however due to service needs our preference is to appoint a qualified, experienced Officer at grade 5 (£34,728 - £38,946 pa). Candidates capable of progression are invited to apply.

Candidates who can demonstrate that they are actively working towards their CIEH registration will be considered but pay cannot progress past £33,825 (grade 4) until such time as the registration is achieved and the full requirements of the FSA competency framework are met.

A suitable candidate holding the Higher Certificate in Food Control / Advanced Professional Certificate in Food Hygiene and Standards Control appointed at Grade 4 (£30,405 - £33,825pa) who is willing to obtain a relevant health and safety qualification will be supported to enable progression and authorisation at Grade 5 (£34,728 - ££38.946pa) as quickly as possible.
