Great Yarmouth Borough Council is a coastal Borough with a big emphasis on tourism, an exciting and vibrant place to work with big plans for the future and significant opportunities ahead.

The Council is actively supporting businesses by successfully bidding for funding to develop and improve the local environment such as upgrades to the fixed market and the rebuilding of the historic winter gardens.  The Council also successfully supports the local offshore industry which is central to the local economy.

This is an opportunity to join a well respected Commercial Team who are adaptive in their approach to businesses.  Your main responsibilities will include the enforcement of food safety legislation in high and medium risk food premises, investigating food complaints and food borne illnesses, food/water sampling, health and safety, infectious diseases and supporting/advising local businesses.

After a recent restructure we are looking for an experienced, dynamic and forward-thinking Senior Commercial Officer to join the team. You will be responsible for your own caseload, supporting the development of policy and procedures for the team as well as supporting other officers in the team.

We are interested in receiving applications from people who are persistent, determined, patient, thorough, pay attention to detail, and have the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.  You will need to be an excellent communicator and have both a professional and personable manner.

Applicants will already hold a degree/diploma in environmental health or the Higher Certificate in Food Control with food inspection endorsement awarded by the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) and be able to satisfy the competency requirements of the FSA food law code of practice.

If you feel you can offer all of the above and more, then we can offer you fantastic training and a career for life. The Council operates an agile working environment with hybrid working at the heart of this. Offering a friendly working environment with attractive terms and conditions, including generous holiday entitlement, flexible working, relocation package (where applicable) and membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme.

If this sound like the role for you, then we look forward to hearing from you.
