An opportunity has arisen to work within the council's Private Sector Housing Team.

Following a review of functions, the Regulatory Enforcement Officer is a new post that has been created within the Private Sector Housing team. You will be key in improving the quality and safety of domestic accommodation including privately rented and owner/occupier premises in Barking and Dagenham through a range of professional and specialist interventions. This will include investigation and resolution of a wide range of public health and nuisance concerns including filthy and verminous premises, hoarding, prevention of damage by pests, premises in such a condition to be a nuisance and the investigation of defective private drainage.

The Private Sector Housing Team at Barking and Dagenham is part of a larger group of Regulatory Services within the Law and Governance Directorate.

We are looking for a highly professional and experienced Regulatory Enforcement Officer who has all of the key behaviours expected from our organisation and who is capable of providing both specialist knowledge and delivering resolution focussed outcomes for our residents. The positions require a commitment and passion for private sector housing work, improving the quality, safety and choice of residential accommodation in Barking and Dagenham through a range of professional, specialist and regulatory interventions.

You will have an opportunity to shape the delivery and set the direction of travel on this workstream and be part of a team that delivers successes and improvements for our residents.

The successful candidate will have outstanding problem solving and be an effective communicator with a strong emphasis on collaborative and relationship building. The candidate will be required to work with stakeholders and colleagues across the authority to secure the best outcomes for residents. We offer a varied and interesting role within our service where you will play a key role in helping us achieve our ambitions for the Borough and our residents.

You will be a flexible, dynamic and enthusiastic team player with excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to your duties to get them completed as efficiently as possible. You will have a thorough understanding of Private Sector Housing, Public Health and Nuisance legislation and the current emerging issues and developments in the field that impact your role. You will be passionate about improving the quality, safety and choice of residential accommodation in the Borough and committed to making a difference to our residents.
