Public Protection Officer - Environmental Protection and Nuisance grade 7 salary: £36,378 - £40,566

There is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join the Environmental Health Team and help protect and improve the environment, by managing a caseload relating to general environmental protection matters, including, but not limited to, investigation of noise and other pollution complaints and enquiries, review and assessment of planning applications and supporting the team’s air quality and environmental permitting work.

You will work closely with the team’s senior officers on noise, air quality, and contaminated land, as well as with colleagues from other services, such as transport planning, environmental enforcement and community safety and external stakeholders, as part of case investigations and other project work. To successfully fulfil the role’s duties and responsibilities, you will be expected to carry out office-based work, as well as site visits. The role is based from home but you are able to also work at the town hall or use mobile working devices.

Along with an environmental degree, diploma or relevant academic or professional qualification, you will possess a firm knowledge of current legislation and policies or experience in one of the environmental protection technical areas; noise, air quality, contaminated land and environmental permitting. Training and coaching on additional technical areas will be provided.

You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to manage your own workload whilst dealing with conflicting priorities. You will also be passionate about delivering a high quality customer service, a good team player and show a strong commitment to Havering’s values, such as integrity, creativity, ambition and respect.

You will also have good knowledge of IT systems such as Microsoft office, including excel, word and power point. There will be an excel and written test if you are short listed for an interview.

Senior Public Protection Officer/Environmental Health Officer – Food and Health &Safety  

Grade 8- £41586-£45576pa

You will be a qualified EHORB registered or Chartered Environmental Health Officer with relevant experience and knowledge for this position. The role consists of being a  Lead officer for Food Safety /Health and Safety enforcement and strategy in premises enforced by the Local Authority.  You will be a “go to” person with several Public Protection Officers for guidance and advice for the Team who will look to you as one of the lead officers in this area. You will work closely with the other Senior officer in the team. Part of the role is also dealing directly with Councillors and senior managers and other internal and external stakeholders.

You must be passionate about delivering a high quality service and care about improving the lives of our residents and business operators, have a positive attitude, vision and care about the delivery of a first class service. In addition you will need to have a high standard of written English and have good verbal communication skills to develop effective working relationships and to influence others.  You will have good knowledge of IT systems such as excel, power point , Microsoft office.  A written test and  Microsoft Excel test will be included as part of the interview, you may also be asked to give a short presentation, the details of which will be provided to candidates selected for interview.

Joint partnership working with the FSA /HSE and other Local Authorities and stakeholders.

Strategic work around the food inspection programmed work

Strategic and enforcement work focusing on Health and safety in relevant commercial premises.
