Technical Officer (Private Water Supplies)

£26,446- £29,174 per year

Mobile throughout East Devon

Full time with a range of flexibilities, including hybrid working, aligned to our Worksmart arrangements

Permanent

About the role

East Devon has one of the highest number of private water supplies in the country. As a Technical Officer in a small team you’ll be sampling residential and business drinking water, supplied by private springs; boreholes and wells. You will complete risk assessments on private water distribution networks and undertake enforcement as necessary.

You’ll prepare and serve relevant statutory notices, and write reports and routine correspondence relating to private water supplies. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate records for the private water supplies database and submitting the annual data return to the Drinking Water Inspectorate.

About you

Whilst previous experience would be a distinct advantage, we welcome applications from graduates looking to take their first steps in their chosen career. You will have a relevant science or Environmental Health degree or have an equivalent qualification / experience.  You will be highly organised and proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, databases and ICT systems. You must be able to extract information from digital systems and analyse large data sets. You will be good at communicating and explaining complex technical and scientific information in plain English. Ideally you will have a broad understanding of the relevant legislation and experience of working within local government.

You will able to carry out in-person visits to remote water supplies in all weathers and across challenging terrain. A valid driving licence and your own car are essential (reasonable adjustments may be possible according to the Equality Act).

About us

In return, you will be part of a Platinum Investors in People (IiP) organisation which works together with local people to create great value services and an outstanding community, economy and environment in which people want to live, work, visit and enjoy now, and for future generations.  And with our wide range of health and wellbeing benefits, our highly flexible and collaborative hybrid Worksmart working arrangements as well as our commitment to continuous learning and development, you can be confident of joining a dedicated community of colleagues who are Happy, Healthy and Here.
