A vacancy has arisen in the Food, Health and Safety and Airport Team at Manchester City Council.

If you would like a new challenge in a vibrant and diverse city where your contribution to public safety is valued then this opportunity would be perfect for you.

You will be responsible for a busy and varied workload in a friendly and supportive team, focussing on inspection programmes, responding to service requests, undertaking investigations and sampling. The role also involves the inspection of premises required to be registered for ear piercing, tattooing/accupuncture etc, processing of Export Health certificates and support to EHO’s/EHP’s in the team. Support may also be required for project work. Training will be provided where required.

We operate highly flexible working arrangements including flexitime, home working, optional office bases across the city, no core hours and compressed working options to enable you to effectively manage your work life balance.

You will need to be highly motivated, able to work well as part of a team, flexible and committed to personal development. If you have the required qualities and skills and are an excellent communicator then we want to hear from you. If you would like an informal discussion about these roles, please contact susan.brown@manchester.gov.uk.

This post requires a EHRB registration or CIEH Registered Food Safety Practitioner status or equivalent; or willingness to enrol and complete a professional qualification leading to CIEH Registered Food Safety Practitioner status or equivalent. Development salary may apply whilst working towards registered status.

The post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (amended in 2013). Appointable candidates will be required to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Information provided by you or the DBS will be dealt with in a confidential manner and in accordance with the DBS Code of Practice which can be viewed here. We have a policy on the Employment of Ex-Offenders and it is available upon request.

This post is also subject to satisfactory references and other pre-employment checks where applicable.

As a field/community-based worker, you would spend most of your time working in the wider community. Your role may involve client meetings, visits, project work and reports. You’ll mainly be working where the service users are, not where the ‘office’ is, but you will have workspace available for when you need it.

Manchester City Council is committed to giving fair support to members of the Armed Forces and veterans, whilst recognising and remembering the sacrifices they have made. The aim of The Armed Forces Covenant is to ensure that the Armed Forces and veterans are not disadvantaged, when applying for vacancies with Manchester City Council. We want to further increase the diversity of our workforce, in particular the number of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic staff and disabled staff at all levels of the Council. This advert is open to all applicants, and we would particularly welcome applications from candidates identifying with one or both of those characteristics.

If you require any adjustments to be able to engage in the recruitment process for this role, please let us know by emailing susan.brown@manchester.gov.uk.
