This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Food Safety Officer to join our small busy team based in Kirkwall, on Mainland, Orkney.

Orkney is justly world famous for food and drink and regularly voted as one of the best places to live in the UK. If you are looking to combine your enthusiasm, knowledge and expertise in food safety, hygiene and standards with an excellent quality of life, then we would love to hear from you.

You will be required to provide a high-quality service to the public and our thriving business community by offering food safety, hygiene and standards advice and guidance as well as undertaking inspections and other interventions as required. You may need to participate in standby duties and work outwith normal hours at times which you will be paid for.

Orkney is the smallest local authority in Scotland, but our diverse portfolio of premises means you will never be bored and will have ample opportunity to develop your knowledge and experience.

You will need to be qualified with Higher Certificates in both Food Premises and Standards Inspection awarded by The Scottish Food Safety Officer’s Registration Board or equivalent professional qualification(s) and must be willing to keep your CPD up to date to maintain and enhance your skills.

A commitment to team working is essential, as is the ability to manage your own workload to meet conflicting priorities and deadlines.

This is a demanding job which offers the opportunity to really utilise your expertise across a full range of food businesses.

You will need to be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
