Environmental Health Practitioner

£32,798 - £36,371 (Grade I)

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, self-motivated and energetic professional to join our busy Environmental Protection Team. The post holder will be required to have the necessary skills to undertake a wide range of duties to protect public health including verifying that food businesses and other commercial operations within the County are meeting the correct food and health and safety standards as well and infection control.  The successful candidate will carry out risk based food hygiene and food standard inspections, health and safety checks and carry out investigations in relation to hygiene, infectious diseases and accidents.  There may also be the opportunity for involvement in project work across all disciplines.

As a minimum you must have recent experience of completing food hygiene inspections within a local government setting, you must have registration with EHRB or equivalent and be able to demonstrate competency in line with the FSA Code of Practice. We are a progressive and professional team of officers who work tirelessly to improve people’s lives. The Authority offers a great place to live and work offering very diverse and exciting challenges in coastal, urban and rural settings. The ability to travel within the County will be essential.

This position allows you flexibility with the ability to work from home, from the office for meetings and discussions as well as being out and about working on the job. This role will require you to work from time to time in the evenings, weekends and at public holidays for the Council to provide a comprehensive service. You will be an excellent communicator and negotiator with a natural empathy in dealing with all kinds of people. Being IT literate, you will have the ability to work independently and to deadlines, as well as having a working knowledge of Environmental Protection legislation. Above all, you will display the essential attitude to get things done.   If you are interested in this post and require more details after reading the job description or just to chat through the role and what’s involved, please contact Mark Liley  MLiley@carmarthenshire.gov.uk

You will need a good level of conversational Welsh. Support can be provided on appointment to reach this level.

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be requested for this post.
