Climate Change Lead Project Officer

Temporary Contract to March 2025

37 hours (full-time) part-time may be considered for the right candidate

Salary Grade 9 £40,578 to £43,570

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to lead on the Council’s response to the Climate Emergency. This is a newly created role funded by Defra air quality grant scheme, designed to implement Uttlesford’s Climate Change Action Plan and deliver a range of projects linked to improving air quality in the district.

As the Lead Project Officer you will be responsible for the Climate Change Project Officer and Climate Change Support Officer. Together you will play a key role in making the Council carbon neutral by 2030.

Collaborative and resilient, you will have experience of engagement work with local government officers, members, local communities and businesses. You will inspire change, have responsibility over projects, planned events and communications through various media.

You will also lead on the development, design and delivery of projects linked to the Saffron Walden Clean Air Initiative, a DEFRA Air Quality Grant to trial a range of schemes to improve air quality in market towns.

If you have an excellent track record in project management and have a passionate interest in environmental issues, we want to hear from you.

This is post is about working passionately and collaboratively as part of a forward thinking and innovative team, to help us achieve our ambitious and challenging targets. We are looking for someone with enthusiasm and a positive ‘can do’ attitude. You must have experience in project management, procurement, contract monitoring, reporting, marketing, and communication campaigns. You must also possess excellent communication, IT and public engagement skills.
