About the role

An exciting job share opportunity has arisen within the Private Sector Housing team at Crawley Borough Council. Working as part of a small team, you will deliver a quality service to our private sector residents within our town. Your role will be to:

  • Further improve the good standard of accommodation already available
  • Carry out inspections as a result of complaints from tenants and take appropriate action to ensure a safe home for residents
  • Process & determine HMO Licence applications in accordance with the Housing Act 2004 and the councils’ own HMO standards
  • Deliver the councils’ statutory Disabled Facility Grants and Discretionary Loans services 

You will have experience of working in a private sector housing environment, have a good working knowledge of the Housing Act 2004, Disabled Facility Grants and other housing related legislation.

You will be able to effectively and efficiently manage a challenging caseload and be confident working as part of a small team. 

To be successful in this role it is important that you are self-motivated with an eye for detail. You will have excellent inter-personal skills with the ability to communicate sensitively with tenants, landlords and other interested partners to achieve the required outcomes. Experience in property inspections and carrying out HHSRS risk assessments is required for this role for which you must hold the two-day HHSRS certificate qualification.

The borough is geographically well located and compact, which helps to keep travel time to a minimum. This is an exciting time to be working for Crawley Borough Council as we will soon be moving into a new, purpose-built Town Hall later this summer, which will provide a stimulating work environment. The council has also adopted a hybrid approach to the working week where officers are able to work from home as well as the Town Hall.

Additional information

One permanent contract on a Job Share basis. 2.5 days (18.5 hours) per week (Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday AM) and additional casual contract posts, hours to be agreed.

Essential car user allowance (currently under review).

Ability to attend evening meetings as and when required.

May on occasions be required to work in confined areas and climb ladders.

A full current UK driving licence will be a requirement of the role.

A Baseline Personnel Security Standard check is required as part of this role, and that will also entail the successful applicant undertaking a basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
