ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICER (Food and Occupational Safety)

Post Number:  SC33

Grade I;  Salary £33,486 - £36,371 pro rata

Hours: 32 per week

  As an Environmental Health Officer you will be based in the Safer Communities Service at the Civic Centre, Harrogate.

You will work in the Food, Licensing and Occupational Safety Team who cover a wide range of service areas including; food safety, infectious disease, health and safety, accidents, licensing, taxis and animal welfare.

You will be responsible for inspecting food and occupational safety premises in accordance with an annual programme and investigating complaints of food safety, health and safety and infectious disease.

It is essential that you can demonstrate competency in food safety enforcement in accordance with the Food Standards Agency Competency Framework.

You must have experience of using the full range of enforcement options including Hygiene and Hygiene Emergency, Detention and Seizure notices.

You will be responsible for leading in a specialist work area e.g. Approved premises, Primary Authority etc.

It is essential that you have a degree in Environmental Health, have EHRB registration, be a member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.

The Council operates a flexible working policy and there is opportunity for some hybrid working subject to approval.

 As an Environmental Health Officer you will be based in the Safer Communities Service at the Civic Centre, Harrogate and there is opportunity for some remote/home working subject to approval.

You will work in the Environmental Protection Team who cover a wide range of service areas including; statutory nuisance; public health; environmental crime; the dog warden service; contaminated land; air quality management; industrial pollution control and private water supplies.

You will be responsible for investigating statutory nuisance complaints and responding to planning and licensing consultations and take a lead role in a specialist area of work. You must have working knowledge and understanding of the nuisance provisions of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and knowledge of Licensing and Planning legislation.

It is essential that you have a degree in Environmental Health, have EHRB registration and be a member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health. Applications from student Environmental Health Officers will be considered.
