This is an exciting time to be joining Hyndurn Borough Councils Environmental Health Team. The team deals with a broad range of Environmental Health duties and is in the process of transition as a number of teams are coming together to form a new Environmental Health service area.

We have the opportunity for three Environmental Health Managers to join the team to deliver on the Councils priorities.

Environmental Health Manager – Food and Safety. This role involves the management of the Councils Food and Safety Team which includes the completion and management of a food service plan for the borough, health and safety, infectious disease investigations, licensing of skin piercing/tattoo establishments, street trading consents.

Environmental Health Manager – Environmental Protection. This role covers the functions of environmental pollution, air quality, contaminated land, private water supplies, noise nuisance, planning application consultations, permitted processes, land detrimental to the amenity of the borough, public health functions, animal, caravan and scrap metal licensing.

Environmental Health Manager – Housing Standards. This role covers the functions of private sector rented housing, managing complaints, inspection of houses in multiple occupation and dealing with empty properties across the borough.

We are looking for professional, competent and enthusiastic individuals who are able to communicate well at all levels, with the ability to cope with a demanding workload.

Applications are invited from candidates with a degree in Environmental Health or equivalent, with at least five years operational experience and at least two years supervisory/management experience. A management qualification (or working towards) is also required for these posts.

The roles require excellent communication and organisational skills, a flexible approach to work and a solution focused outlook. You will be working in a friendly and supportive environment and will be expected to work well with all members of the team and wider council colleagues. A good level of effective IT skills and the ability to understand and develop the use of ICT to achieve work objectives is also required.

Environmental Health Officers X 2 (Housing Standards)

We have two exciting opportunities to join our Housing Team to support the Council’s aim to improve housing standards and the Borough’s housing stock including the private rented sector, homes in multiple occupancy and empty homes.

The post holder will contribute to improving the quality of private sector rented housing stock within the Borough, investigating reports of sub-standard housing conditions and poor management practice.

You will be involved with the investigation and enforcement of private sector housing complaints under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System, reports of illegal eviction, and Houses in Multiple Occupancy (HMOs) including licensing.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent team player, be competent to deal with complex case work and have very good verbal and communication skills.  You will need to be organised and motivated and be able to work on your own initiative.

The successful candidate will be suitably qualified and experienced, including the Housing Health and Safety Rating System.

We will also consider applications from candidates who are not fully qualified EHO’s. This may include those who hold (or will very soon complete) Environmental Health Degrees (BSC or MSC) accredited by the CIEH.

Enforcement Officer (Waste Services)

We are seeking someone to assist with the delivery of our Waste Enforcement service within the principles of best value and Councils policies. This person will investigate complaints with regards to environmental issues, fly tipped rubbish, side waste, littering, abandoned or nuisance vehicles and incorrect use of waste containers by residents and businesses.

The successful candidate needs to be a team player, flexible in their approach to duties have a good customer focus and a positive can do attitude and ensure all actions are carried out in line with the Council’s Health and Safety Policies and Safe Working Procedures. You will need effective verbal and written skills and the ability to use various IT systems and mobile technology skills including word and excel.  Along with a good knowledge of enforcement work and understanding of legal notices and what they are used for.

The post holder will be required to possess a valid category C1 driving Licence or be willing to undertake training to gain this Licence within a 6 month period. A WAMITAB qualification in Enforcement or a willingness to work towards gaining this qualification.

The role is a safety critical role and the successful candidate will be subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

The hours of work are 37 hours per week, 7:00am to 14:59pm. However, in order to provide continuity of service to residents, you may be required to work on certain Weekends or Bank Holidays.
